I joined the practice in 2007 and assumed administrative duties in 2011. I graduated from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS, with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. My professional certifications include Certified Ophthalmic Executive (COE) and Ophthalmic Coding Specialist (OCS). I'm a current member for AAOE (American Academy of Ophthalmic Executives) and ASOA (American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators). I currently serve on the NBCOE (National Board for the Certification of Ophthalmic Executives) and also a member of the AE (Administrative Eyecare) magazine Editorial Board.
DENISE BISHOP, COT, OCS
I started working for Dr. Rettig in 2009. I began my career in ophthalmology in 1995. I am a Certified Ophthalmic Technician, Certified Ophthalmic Coding Specialist, and Certified National Contact Lens Examiner. I work with Dr. Rettig as her billing/coding specialist and also supervise reception. I love my job and enjoy interacting with patients. I have been working for Dr. Rettig since November 2018, but have been in the optical field for 4 years previously. I work with patients and assist on selecting the right frame and lens choices for their everyday needs. I am also currently enrolled in classes to earn my Bachelors in General Studies with an emphasis in Health and Human Performance, while also continuing my education to become a Certified Optician. Outside of work, I spend most of my spare time with my Alaskan Malamute Chinook and also enjoy riding my bicycle, running or kayaking.

I have been working for Dr. Rettig since August 2007 and assumed the position of Clinical Director in January of 2019. I have been blessed with the opportunity to work closely with Dr. Rettig in office and assisting her while in surgery. Throughout my years here at Esther V. Rettig MDPA I've acquired several certifications including: Certified Ophthalmic Technician, Certified Optician, Certified Contact Lens technician, and Ophthalmic Coding Specialist. I'm happy to say I LOVE what I do and I am still learning every day.
JENNIE BROWN, COT, OCS
I started working for Dr. Rettig in January 2003 after working for Dr. Falter since 1999. I work in surgery with Dr. Rettig as well as in the office, assisting in a wide variety of testing and procedures. I love being able to work closely with patients and thoroughly enjoy being able to help people see! I am the head technician, surgical assistant, in office assistant, contact lens technician, and ophthalmic coding specialist. My job is never boring! I am currently enrolled in classes pursuing my degree as a physicians assistant.

I have been working for Dr. Rettig since 2019. I grew up in Illinois and moved to Kansas in 2009. I have three dogs named Indie, Sadie, and Cali. I currently work at the front desk as a patient service representative and am training to become an ophthalmic assistant. I enjoy being able to learn something new every day and enjoy getting to meet new people!
I began working for Dr. Rettig in August, 2019. I am currently enrolled at HCC working towards an Associate in Applied Science degree. I work in patient services and look forward to greeting our patients every day! I enjoying working for Dr. Rettig, and with the staff, and can’t wait to see what the future holds for me here!
